On the morning of 26 September 2025, in Greifswald, Germany, during the RRR2025 Conference, the three Horizon Europe funded projects – PaluWise, Palus Demos and Paludi4All – came together for a joint working breakfast under the motto “From Ideas to Action”.
Creative way of collaboration
The breakfast, attended by 25 representatives from the three project consortia, underscores the ongoing collaboration among Europe’s leading projects facilitating the transition to paludiculture. In an informal yet purposeful setting, participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas, build personal connections, and initiate the groundwork for future joint activities.
The session opened with short introductions from the project leads. Päivi Merilä, coordinator of PaluWise, provided an overview of PaluWise’s activities and team. Boris Vashev, coordinator of Paludi4All, presented ongoing and planned activities, while Aldert van Weeren, representing PalusDemos, highlighted the project’s current work and objectives.
Each project contributes specific expertise and practical solutions, in order to accelerate the transition towards large-scale paludiculture in Europe. Paludi4All is addressing socio-economic and environmental aspects, providing innovation tools and fostering stakeholder engagement. PaluWise develops advanced, production-focused solutions for the sustainable use of rewetted degraded peatlands, using four large-scale demonstration sites to build the evidence base for EU policy integration and create the evidence-based strategies needed to scale up paludiculture across Europe. Palus Demos is testing practical applications at demonstration sites and exploring markets for paludiculture products. Together, the three projects create comprehensive approaches that accelerate the upscaling of paludiculture across Europe.
From ideas to action
Discussion during the breakfast initiated steps to have a joint project calendar, identified opportunities for coordinated events and explored potential synergies. Crucially, the meeting was used to go through the common stakeholders to harmonize engagement strategies across all three projects. These steps are intended to enhance collaboration among the three projects and to increase their collective impacts by ensuring the most comprehensive and efficient joint outreach. The joint breakfast symbolises the commitment of PaluWise, PalusDemos, and Paludi4All to join forces to take a holistic approach to scaling up paludiculture in Europe.
